It might be very unpopular to say but sometimes bad weather days are just great and turn out to be the most memorable.
On dark, moody, wild-weather days the clouds sit low, the landscape appears and disappears behind curtains, the world goes quiet and the magic happens.
Don’t get us wrong, sunny days are by far our go-to weather but, as they say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade…And when life gives you bad weather, make a great ride out of it.
We’ve had hailstorms on Campo Imperatore, storms so intense they made the Alps disappear, and misty days on Monte Grappa, where low clouds turned the war memorial into a ghostly silhouette rising from the silence. We also had an incredible snow-covered Sella Ronda; so epic to deserve its own post.
What We Love About Riding in Bad Weather
- The Mood – Mist, fog, clouds. Dramatic light, mysterious vibes. It feels cinematic.
- Empty Roads – No cars, no motorbikes, no crowds. Just you and the road.
- That Epic Feeling – These are the rides you talk about for years.
- The Warm Shower After – Possibly better than the ride itself.

What We Don’t Love (But Can Deal With)
- Cold, Wet Descents – Braking gets tricky. That’s why we have the van.
- Frozen Fingers and Toes – Good gear helps. And we always carry spares.
- The Layer Struggle – Climb, sweat, descend, freeze, repeat. It’s a rhythm.
- Not Many Photos – True. But the stories you’ll tell? So much better.

Tips from the Vago Team
- Layer up smart: Start with a good base, add waterproof layers, and don’t forget gloves.
- Don’t overdress: You’ll overheat climbing. Better to stop and add layers before the descent.
- Eat and drink more: Cold weather burns energy fast.
- Keep your sense of humor: It helps more than any jacket.
- Know when to stop: There is no shame in jumping in the van, just hot coffee and good vibes. If it’s not fun or safe, call it a ride.

Final Thought
Bad weather doesn’t always make for a perfect ride. But it often makes for an unforgettable one.
And if the wind roars, the rain pours, and your motivation disappears?
That’s what the Vago van is for: jump in, warm up, and laugh it off.
Rain or shine, come ride the Vago Way. We can’t wait to share the road with you.
